Biography

Professor Zhan graduated from Zhejiang Medical University with a BA degree in medicine in 1983. He received his master's degree in neurosurgery from Zhejiang Medical University in 1991, and studied at the University of Kiel in Germany from 1998 to 2002, receiving his Ph.D. in neurosurgery in 2002.

He is a well-known expert in neurosurgery and serves as Director of the Department of Neurosurgery at the First Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University. He is also the director-designate of Zhejiang Neurosurgery Medicine Association, the Zhejiang Neuro-oncology Anti-Cancer Association, and serves on multiple committees including the Chinese Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the Expert Committee of Cerebral Vascular Disease.

Professor Zhan has been engaged in clinical neurosurgery for over 30 years, specializing in:

Professor Zhan has published over 110 academic papers in prestigious journals including Nature Communications, Journal of Neurosurgery, Medicine, Critical Care, World Neurosurgery, and Acta Neurochirurgica. He has led numerous research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Zhejiang Natural Science Foundation, focusing on cerebrovascular disease, glioma metabolism, neural stem cells, and traumatic brain injury.

Research Interests

Dr. Jin's research focuses on brain tumor immunotherapy, with particular expertise in:

  • CAR-T cell therapy for glioblastoma and solid tumors
  • Novel target antigen discovery (CD70, CXCR1/2, LAIR1)
  • Tumor microenvironment and immunosuppression
  • Metabolic engineering of T cells for enhanced anti-tumor activity
  • Combination immunotherapy strategies

Key Contributions

Dr. Jin has made pioneering contributions to CAR-T cell therapy for glioblastoma, including:

  • Development of CD70-targeted CAR-T cells for gliomas
  • Engineering CXCR1/2-modified CAR-T cells that co-opt IL-8 for enhanced tumor trafficking
  • Discovery of LAIR1 as a novel immune checkpoint in glioblastoma
  • Multiple patent applications including chimeric antigen receptor T-cells expressing IL-8 receptor (US Patent 11,788,093)
